Keeping Hearts Alive for Transplant [VIDEO]

More than 40 years after the first human heart transplant (though that patient lived just 18 days), doctors still struggle to keep organs viable after the death of a donor. UCLA is working to solve that problem with its “organ preservation system,” now in phase 2 clinical study. As the video below promises, it’s “a heart in a box.”
