Trump Doubles Down: “There Are Things About Heidi [Cruz] That I Don’t Want to Talk About”

Donald Trump is making it clear that he has absolutely no intention of abandoning his claims that there is some big secret about Ted Cruz’s wife that people should know about. “There are things about Heidi that I don’t want to talk about,” Trump said on ABC’s This Week when he was asked about what he meant when he threatened to “spill the beans” on Heidi Cruz. “I mean, you know, you can look. But I wouldn’t talk about them.”

Trump also vehemently denied his campaign is behind a National Enquirer piece that suggests Cruz had several extramarital affairs. “I have no control over the National Enquirer. I didn’t even know about the story, I just got it last night.” He refused to condemn the story though, saying it had nothing to do with him. “I have no idea whether it was right or not,” Trump said. “They actually have a very good record of being right. But I have absolutely no idea.” Besides, “he’s the one that started it,” Trump said, noting he had heard it was Cruz’s campaign that had provided a SuperPAC with a picture of Melania Trump to be used in ads against the real estate mogul.

Cruz pushed back against the National Enquirer story on Fox News, calling it “garbage” that was planted by the Trump campaign. “This story is garbage. It is tabloid smear and it came from Donald Trump and his henchmen,” Cruz said on Fox News Sunday. Cruz noted that Roger Stone, a former Trump adviser, was the only person quoted on the record in the story. “Roger Stone remains the henchman, the hatchet man, the enforcer for Donald Trump,” the Texas senator said. “He’s pushing these attacks. And by the way, he’s been pushing them for many months.”
