Texas Republican Rep. Randy Weber stands for the rule of law—the rule of Godwin’s law, that is. Monday night he wrote an odd tweet suggesting President Obama could have learned a thing or two from Hitler.
The National Jewish Democratic Council issued a press release Tuesday morning calling for Weber to apologize.
“For any public official to compare our nation’s president to the perpetrator of the Holocaust is simply unacceptable,” said Greg Rosenbaum, chairman of the NJDC’s board of directors. “As a member of Congress and especially as a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, one would hope that Rep. Weber would know better than to make such an outrageous remark.”
One’s hopes would be misplaced. This isn’t the first time Weber’s been a little too trigger-happy on social media. Before the president’s 2014 State of the Union address, he made a pretty mediocre wordplay about alleged mendacity from the president.
Weber holds Ron Paul’s old House seat.
