Original Post: Sony seems to have changed its mind on The Interview: They’d actually like you to watch it after all. Yesterday, the studio brokered a deal to show the film in independent theaters on Christmas Day. Several hundred theaters nationwide have signed on to show the movie. On Wednesday, CNN’s Brian Stelter reported the studio has also tentatively come to terms on an agreement to offer The Interview on YouTube as a rental.

The deal has not yet been finalized. “But if Sony Pictures can get the deal done in time, ‘The Interview’ will have a historic simultaneous release in both living rooms and theaters,” Stelter reports. “The YouTube deal is not likely to be exclusive. Sony has been talking with other potential partners as well. An earlier plan to rent ‘The Interview’ through Apple’s iTunes store broke down, according to two of the sources, but it could re-materialize sometime after Christmas.”
