Protesters returned to the streets of Ferguson on Tuesday night, facing a National Guard presence that had been tripled by Gov. Jay Nixon earlier in the day. While many of the protesters were peaceful, some managed to overturn a police cruiser and set it ablaze, prompting police to use tear gas. Others in the crowd broke windows at Ferguson City Hall. Large protests also took place in New York City; Washington, D.C.; Atlanta; Pittsburgh; New Orleans; Portland; Minneapolis; Los Angeles; and Durham, North Carolina—including instances of protesters shutting down highways.
