CPAC Diary: The Sci-Fi Story of the Tea Party

On the way over to some of CPAC’s breakout sessions, Tea Party filmmaker Luke Livingston beckoned me over to a TV screen. Livingston, who’s been documenting the movement since 2009, was showing off a faux movie trailer that told the story of a dystopian future, of an America ruled by the “Development Party,” liberated by a familiar-looking cause.

“This video’s made Tea Party Patriots $1 million in 10 days,” said Livingston. It was a good way to introduce the Tea Party to “younger people, people who were in high school when this started.” He handed me one of the Development Party cards that TPP had produced as tie-ins. “You should come to our Hunger Games karaoke tomorrow,” he said.
