A step out of bounds on the vault, a break in form on the uneven bars, and U.S. women’s gymnastics world champion and favorite in the individual all-around Jordyn Wieber failed to advance to the finals.
Wieber, who had not lost a meet in two years before the U.S. Olympic trials, was upset by her teammate Aly Raisman, who coach John Geddert said, “Had the meet of her life.” Wieber came in third behind Raisman and Gabby Douglas, but because each country is only allowed two gymnasts, she will not proceed to the finals.
While the outcome was a disappointing one, Wieber graciously tweeted to her followers: “Thank you all for your love and support. I am so proud of our team today, and I can’t wait for team finals!!” She gets a score of 16.4 for gymnastics with class.
