Bowles-Simpson Hold Marvel Team-Up With Pete Peterson

Isn’t the time right for a new-new-new bipartisan alliance for deficit reduction? No. Too bad. Later today at the National Press Club, the labatory and nursery for so many well-intentioned-but-doomed campaigns, the Campaign to Fix the Debt will break a bottle of champagne over a box of treasury bills. (I’m assuming.)

Alan Simpson won’t make it, but he and Erskine Bowles hold the “founder” titles at the organization. The rest of the people who’ll show up to schlep it:

Erskine Bowles, Co-Founder, The Campaign to Fix the Debt

Senator Judd Gregg, Co-Chair, The Campaign to Fix the Debt

Governor Ed Rendell, Co-Chair, The Campaign to Fix the Debt

Dave Cote, Chairman & CEO, Honeywell

Maya MacGuineas, President, The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget

Senator Sam Nunn, Co-Chairman, The Concord Coalition; Co-Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, The Nuclear Threat Initiative

Pete Peterson, Founder and Chairman, The Peter G. Peterson Foundation

Steven Rattner, Chairman, Willett Advisors

Alice Rivlin, Former Director, OMB; Founding Director, CBO

Paul Stebbins, Executive Chairman, World Fuel Services

Ambassador Bob Zoellick, former President of the World Bank

That’s enough to pack a couple weeks of Sunday shows.
