Rick Perry Versus 9-9-9

There’s no Haley Barbour/Paul Ryan-style 9-9-9-love coming from Rick Perry. In his Good Morning America interview, Perry made the same argument against the plan that Rick Santorum did.
video platformvideo managementvideo solutionsvideo player “When you look at the nine percent increase in states that already have a sales tax,” he says, “then you’re going to see some pushback from people. I think at the end of the day, once this really gets looked at, sounds pretty cool to just say 9-9-9, but at the end of the day it is a big tax increase on some people out there that vote, that care, and I think it’s going to be tough sledding for 9-9-9.” Later: “That other nine is a nine percent increase on our senior citizens, on their social security tax.” All sound arguments! But this is the same Rick Perry who said, in his first campaign speech, that he was “dismayed at the injustice” of 47 percent of people paying no net income tax. He wants to tax poor people less than 9 percent, I suppose. What does he want to tax them?
