Firefox 6 is trending as Mozilla officially releases its latest browser update.
Techies were able to access the upgrade early via Mozilla’s FTP, and some preliminary reviews have come in. Engadget says users shouldn’t expect big cosmetic changes to their desktop but that the update is “quite snappy.” Other improvements include strengthened security settings and faster start-up time.
Some users are confused with 6’s release, since Firefox 5 just came out earlier this summer and Firefox 4 was introduced in March. Mozilla says one reason for the rapid-fire rollouts is to keep up with other regularly updated browsers such as Google Chrome.
In that spirit, Firefox 7 is set for a September release and will focus on memory-usage reduction.
