Republican Voters Want Ryan to Run for President, Split on Gingrich

Another nugget from that CNN poll: By a 48-43 margin, Republicans would “like to see” Paul Ryan run for president. That’s the best number for any fantasy candidate – better than Rick Perry’s or Jeb Bush’s. Asked whether they’d be content if Newt Gingrich got the nomination, only 16 percent of these voters say they’d be “enthusiastic,” while 34% say they’d be “pleased but not enthusiastic.” It could be worse – his overall enthusiastic/upset rating is 50-47. But for comparison, Ron Paul has an enthusiastic/upset rating of 63/34.

We can close the book on last month’s fight – the Republican base simply likes Paul Ryan and his ideas more than it does yesterday’s ideas man, Gingrich.
