Slate is hiring a manager of finance and accounting in its D.C. office. The person in this position will have wide-ranging responsibility while supporting the financial controls and reporting of a dynamic and growing online publication. The manager will engage directly with members of Slate’s editorial, audio, operations, sales, and technology teams while supporting our core business and broader business initiatives.
The manager of finance and accounting will report directly to the senior director of finance and accounting and will have a staff accountant serving as a direct report. The manager’s responsibilities will include oversight of the monthly, quarterly, and year-end close process, along with the recordation of general ledger activity and the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts. The manager will also ensure the timely reporting of monthly financial information and assist with providing analytics and response to internal inquiries. Additionally, the manager will maintain accounting controls and help with the development and implementation of procedures to enhance workflow.
The ideal candidate will have an accounting- or finance-related degree and at least five years of progressive accounting experience. A working knowledge of the full accounting cycle and strong reconciliation skills are must-haves.
