Dominique Strauss-Kahn is due back on court on Aug. 1, and it has seemed likely that the sexual assault charges against him would be dropped then – despite his semen being found on the maid who alleges he attacked her – because of her severe credibility problems. (And let’s give credit to District Attorney Cyrus Vance for coming forward with information exculpatory to the defense. Unfortunately, not all prosecutors bother to follow this requirement.) So it’s an interesting development that the lawyer for Tristane Banon, the young journalist who’s filed charges in France that Strauss-Kahn tried to rape her, just had a meeting at the D.A.’s office, along with the lawyer for the maid. In the meantime, the story of Strauss-Kahn just gets darker and more depraved. As William Saletan describes, there’s a new twist in Strauss-Kahn’s alleged attack against Banon. Banon’s mother, Anne Mansouret, has gone public with the fact that she had consensual, although “brutal,” sex with him three years prior to his encounter with her daughter. Mansouret says of her rendezvous in the office (so much cheaper and more convenient than a hotel room!) of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development that Strauss-Kahn was a “predator who isn’t looking to please but to take.”
Apparently Strauss-Kahn has an insatiable appetite for taking, or an open prescription for Cialis for daily use (“an everyday moment can turn romantic anytime”). A new account says that Strauss-Kahn confided to his wife, who confided to a friend, who confided to a French publication, that Strauss-Kahn acknowledged that while in New York he went on a sex spree, a last stand before having to behave himself in anticipation of running for the French presidency. The article said he admitted to having sex with three women during his brief New York stay, the ostensible purpose of which was to meet his daughter’s new boyfriend. This story seems to have been put out by way of explaining how his semen got on the maid. See, it was all just a fun and games weekend for this randy boy, and Sinclair understands and accepts his needs. The article reiterates the previously revealed information that after he checked into the Sofitel he began propositioning attractive young employees, and adds the juicy news that there is hotel security tape showing him escorting a woman to his suite about 1:30 a.m., and her leaving about 3:00 a.m. For a man in his 60s he certainly is potent; only a few hours later came the encounter with the maid. Maybe the news about his weekend of R&R is an attempt to salvage his reputation – ou la la, what a stud this Frenchman is! But just because someone is an old goat, doesn’t also mean that he doesn’t get a thrill from using force if the opportunity presents itself.
