Madonna gave an impromptu concert in Washington Square Park on Monday night in an Election Day eve attempt to get out the vote for Hillary Clinton, Billboard reports. The pop star performed acoustic versions of “Like a Prayer,” “Imagine,” “If I Had a Hammer,” and more, for a crowd consisting mostly of New York University students. She ended the concert with an endorsement of Clinton:
Please come out tomorrow … Vote with your heart, vote with your mind, vote with your spirit, vote with your soul. Save this country, please. Vote for Hillary Rodham Clinton!
Vimeo user Julie Root posted a video of the entire show shortly after it was over:
It was not Madonna’s first attempt to get out the vote; in 1990, she appeared in the very first “Rock the Vote” ad, which even today serves as a chilling cautionary tale about appearing in “Rock the Vote” ads.
