According to a report in the Observer, comedian Dave Chappelle found time during a standup set on Friday night to stand up for Donald Trump. Chappelle, who will host the first postelection Saturday Night Live on Nov. 12, feels Trump was mistreated by the media when they reported on the 2005 recording of the Republican candidate bragging that his fame allowed him to grab women “by the pussy.” What’s more, he believes that the tape on which Donald Trump tells Billy Bush that he grabs women “by the pussy” was leaked by someone in Hillary Clinton’s camp and that this invasion of Trump’s privacy is a worse problem than a presidential candidate who grabs women “by the pussy.”
“What I heard on that tape was gross, but the way I got to hear it was even more gross. You know that came directly from Hillary,” Chappelle said, in reference to the 2005 tape of Donald Trump saying that he enjoyed grabbing women “by the pussy.” According to Chappelle, Trump’s claim that his policy around beautiful women was to “grab them by the pussy” wasn’t a description of sexual assault, notwithstanding the 15 women so far who have alleged that Trump sexually assaulted them:
Sexual assault? It wasn’t. He said, “And when you’re a star, they let you do it.” That phrase implies consent. I just don’t like the way the media twisted that whole thing. Nobody questioned it.
The comedian went on to praise Trump for his smooth handling of the leaked tape in which he boasted about grabbing women “by the pussy,” noting that a scandal involving a candidate cheerfully describing how much he enjoyed sexually assaulting women, followed by numerous women standing up to claim he sexually assaulted them, “would have devastated anybody else.”
Chappelle also told the audience that although he “didn’t feel good about it,” he had voted early for Hillary Clinton.
