Judd Apatow’s new Netflix show, Love, is a rare sight in today’s TV landscape: a naturalistic, half-hour comedy about iffy relationships set in the sunny climes of greater Los Angeles.
Kidding! We already have a ton of those shows: Transparent, Modern Family, You’re the Worst, Togetherness, Casual, and Awkward, to name a few. What sets Love apart, of course, is Apatow, who’s spent his career running a fine-toothed comb through the knots and tangles of modern love, and whose gimlet eye for talent endures: The show’s leads are the luminous Gillian Jacobs (Community, The Good Wife, Girls) and comic Paul Rust, a UCB veteran and frequent guest on Comedy Bang Bang. Love premieres Feb. 19.
