If the State of the Union Were a Wes Anderson Film

On Tuesday night, President Obama will deliver his seventh, and final, State of the Union address, a Washington tradition known for its elaborate rituals and old-fashioned sense of ceremony.

The speech’s fusty, ultra-curated nature is given a clever extension in this video by CNN, which imagines the event as directed by Wes Anderson. The director’s hallmarks are all here: highly centered, rectilinear compositions; an erudite and deadpan narrator (CNN reporter Chris Moody); and, courtesy of Congress, a cast of whimsical, often self-absorbed characters. Bill Murray, unfortunately, is absent.
