In the first trailer for David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, released Monday by Warner Bros., the shadowy ringleader Amanda Waller (Viola Davis) plainly states her intentions (and the basic plot summary): “I want to assemble a task force of the most dangerous people on the planet, who I think can do some good.” But what if something goes wrong?
Cue a parade of supervillains doing what they do best, complete with Will Smith as Deadshot, Joel Kinnaman as Rick Flagg, Jai Courtney as Boomerang, and Cara Delevingne as Enchantress. Margot Robbie looks appropriately maniacal as Harley Quinn (if a bit reminiscent of a Sia video as she dangles from the top of a cage dressed in white). And Leto’s Joker might look like a Juggalo, but he’s also certifiably scary as he promises, “I’m not gonna kill ya. I’m just gonna hurt ya really, really bad.” Don’t get too excited yet: The movie isn’t due out until August 2016.
