Reports of an album-length collaboration between Beyoncé and Jay Z have been adding up for months now, with unnamed sources reportedly leaking the news first to Dash Radio’s DJ Skee and then to the New York Post’s Page Six gossip blog. But at last night’s Grammys, as Stereogum points out, someone close to Jay Z and Beyoncé finally went on the record with his name. While on the red carpet at the awards show, producer Detail, who co-wrote and co-produced Beyoncé tracks “Jealous” and “Drunk in Love,” let slip to Billboard that the three of them are “doing something together this year”—and he not-so-subtly suggested that it was the long-rumored album.
“When you think of Jay and Bey together, you think ‘album,’ ” he said, after a pause. After more than a decade making music together and co-headlining a successful world tour, yes, an album seems like the perfectly logical next step in the couple’s apparent plans for musical domination.
