Watch a Short, Stunning Video Essay on Lauren Bacall

It’s been a little over a week since Lauren Bacall died, and odes to her long, storied career are still being made. Over at Press Play, Serena Bramble has delivered one of the better tributes: a video essay on Bacall highlighting the late legend’s unique place in cinema history.

It’s a short video, but an insightful one: we see the many facets of Bacall, whose sultry persona and humble, independent attitude allowed her to dominate the industry while never taking herself too seriously. That trait, and her remarkable wisdom, is captured well in the quote Bacall gives at the end of the video: “After I’m gone, if things last, they last. You never know whether they’ll last or not. I don’t do things for posterity anyway.”
