Watch the Most Beautiful Free Kicks in World Cup History

This World Cup has already seen its share of standout goals. From Lionel Messi’s amazing side-step around the Bosnia and Herzegovina defense, to Robin van Persie’s dolphin header, to John Brooks’ miraculous winner versus Ghana and Tim Cahill’s magical volley against the Netherlands, there have been some beauties. Of the most memorable moments so far, though, none have really come off of free kicks. To tide you over until that great free kick moment of the 2014 World Cup occurs, our colleagues at have cut together this amazing highlight reel of the best World Cup free kicks of all time.

Grégor Brandy, Grégoire Fleurot, and Jean-Marie Pottier cut and edited this clip to include classics going all the way back to the 1954 World Cup and through Diego Forlán’s amazing effort for Uruguay against Ghana in the 2010 quarterfinals. Of course, they managed to work David Beckham in there as well. Twice. You can see all of the kick-takers and the years of the free kicks at the end of the video. Enjoy!
