Americans for Prosperity Advises Members To “Calibrate Your Message” on Debt Ceiling

I was and remain a platinum coin fan, but people should understand that taking the coin off the table was more like Obama burning the bridges behind him than reducing his bargaining leverage.

The idea is to try to obtain credibility that he’s genuinely immovable on the debt ceiling issue, and Republicans should just negotiate deficit reduction around the sequester or appropriations process instead. And a little datapoint that it may be working comes from Stephanie Kirchgaessner reporting that Americans for Prosperity, one of the major Koch organizations, is basically telling conservatives they shouldn’t fight to the death on the debt ceiling and ought to look for other ways to cut spending.
