“Maker” States Are Friendlier to Obama Than “Taker” Ones, But So What?

Alex Klein shows above that regarding last week’s makers versus takers debate, it’s the states full of people who pay lots of taxes that are friendliest to Obama.

But I don’t really know what we should conclude from this. Political pundits frequently make fallacious inferences around the fact that wealthier states (Maryland, New Jersey, Connecticut) and metro areas (San Francisco, Washington, Boston) tend to be liberal. But the state-level data makes it very clear that wealthier people are much more likely to vote Republican than poor people notwithstanding the fact that poor states are more Republican than rich ones. The tax data just seems like a special way of stating this same point.
