A Verdict in Westminster Hall

Join Slate’s open thread for the week of April 15.

Scandal in high society! On this day in 1776, the duchess of Kingston, also known as the countess of Bristol, was found guilty of bigamy, having secretly married an earl many years before she publicly married a duke. She is the only woman in British history to have been convicted of bigamy in the House of Lords. You may use this page to gossip about scandals of the British nobility, consider sexual adventuresses through history, or pursue other points of freewheeling, off-topic discourse.
