Ambassador Daniel Fried is Weiser Family Distinguished Fellow at the Atlantic Council. He previously served as special assistant and National Security Council senior director for Presidents Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, ambassador to Poland, and assistant secretary of state for Europe (2005–09) and as State Department coordinator for sanctions policy.
