As everybody knows, Iowa and New Hampshire kick off the caucus season--er, we mean the primary season. Or both. Last year, Michael Brus explained how a caucus differs from a primary. In 1998, Walter Shapiro (this week's diarist) argued that California's old state-party conventions were superior to its modern primary.
