What's In a (Middle) Name?

Wire reports on the surrender of the presumed Los Angeles day-care gunman refer to him as Buford O'Neal Furrow Jr. Why use the middle name? In 1998, Bruce Gottlieb explained the New York Times' policy on publishing middle names and initials.
