
Swan Song
Posted Wednesday, July 18, 2001, at 3:00 AM ETOn Tuesday Katharine Graham, the Washington Post Co.'s CEO for three decades, died at age 84. In 1997 Slate's Jack Shafer reviewed her Pulitzer-winning autobiography, recounting how Graham transformed herself from an "ugly duckling" into a "carnivorous swan." "Most autobiographies are more about concealing than telling," Shafer writes, "but Graham ropes off relatively little." (Click here for the article.)
